Already

1992

This project, after Marcel Duchamp's “Etant Donné,” (1946-1966), was conceived as a commentary on the return of the literalized body (realist sculpture, etc.) to art in the early 1990s.

In “Already,” Duchamp's non-literal “female” figure is transformed into a maid serving the spectator, who has to peer through a peephole to see her, a museum bench, and a glass of wine on the gallery mantle.
