That Monster: An Allegory

2018

Silvia Kolbowski

"That Monster: An Allegory" is a a video about the human subjects formed by current economic regimes, and the psychical dimensions underlying the breakdown of democracy in the U.S. and worldwide. The video addresses, through allegorical means, the projections and identifications at play in today's mass politics, challenging spectators to think about their own projections and identifications in regards to political "others."

That Monster: An Allegory features remixed images and sequences from the classic horror film "The Bride of Frankenstein" (1935; James Whale). Its script is drawn from the movie, Mary Shelly's novel, Frankenstein, and original writing. This film plays once with sound and once in silence.
